Happy Rescue-versary, Barbara! 🎉

Today, July 31, is a very special day: our beloved Barbara's rescue-versary! On this day in 2022, we welcomed her to Only Sunshine Sanctuary, where she found her loving forever home. This is her story.

When we got the call about an abandoned goat with a severe leg injury, we couldn't say no.

As soon as we arrived, we knew Barbara needed immediate medical care. She was limping badly on an old, neglected broken leg that had never healed properly and still dangled from her body, and every step caused her great pain.

Barbara's suffering as a result of her previous owner's neglect is a reminder of how often animals like goats are treated as disposable. Whether exploited in animal agriculture or neglected in private homes and discarded when they’re no longer useful, farmed animal species are too often denied the care, respect, and compassion they deserve.

Barbara was rushed to the hospital, where we learned she would need her entire leg amputated—a life-changing surgery we were able to say "yes" to because of the generosity of our compassionate supporters.

Thanks to the generosity of our community and the dedication of our volunteers, Barbara made a full recovery. Today, this sweet, resilient, and joyful girl is thriving, basking in all the love, sunshine, and treats she has always deserved.

She runs happy and free on three legs, rests in the shade on hot days, gallops to greet her volunteer friends, and is always ready to give a hug to anyone who needs cheering up.

Barbara's unbreakable spirit is a daily reminder that every animal deserves a chance at hope, healing, and happiness—the very opposite of the abuse and exploitation inherent in animal farming.
