Happy Birthday to the Rescued Pig Who Started It All! ๐๐
Next week, we're celebrating someone very special: Harold, the pig who started it all! Before there was a whole sanctuary, there was one lonely pig looking for a family. This is his story:
Once upon a time, there was a homeless pig named Harold who was looking for a family.
Every day, he watched people walk by his lonely kennel at the Sacramento SPCA from his straw bed, waiting for someone to choose him.
One day, a woman named Kristy spotted him on the SPCA website and came to visit. Harold was so happy to finally have a friend that he immediately rolled over for a belly rub.
Kristy instantly fell in love with his sweet personality and knew she had to take him home. Because of that, Harold became the founding resident of Only Sunshine Sanctuary, inspiring a mission to rescue and care for more overlooked farmed animals like him.
Today, Harold spends his days roaming a beautiful one-acre sanctuary, frolicking with his rescued friends, cooling off in his favorite mud pond, and charming visitors with tricks like "sit" and "twirl." He is a daily reminder that every animal is a unique individual deserving of respect and compassion. Since Harold first arrived, his story has helped inspire the rescue of hundreds more animals.
Farmed animals deserve the same high-quality, lifelong care and compassion we give dogs and cats, and thanks to compassionate supporters like you, thatโs exactly what Harold will continue to receive at Only Sunshine Sanctuary. From nutritious meals, fresh fruit treats, mud baths, special medications and CBD for his aging joints, and (of course!) his annual birthday celebration, he'll spend the rest of his life surrounded by safety, peace, and love.
We hope you'll join us next Saturday, August 29th for Harold's Pancake Breakfast & 14th Birthday Celebration! Together, we'll celebrate Harold, support the lifelong care of our rescued residents, and help write the next chapter for overlooked animals still waiting for their own happy ending.
We, and Harold, hope to see you there! ๐
